Three officers in a Minnesota city were shot on Sunday morning as they responded to a domestic call, officials said.

Senator Amy Klobuchar, Democrat of Minnesota, confirmed the shooting on social media. “They were doing their jobs,” she wrote. “They were protecting our community.”

The conditions of the officers were not immediately available.

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said that its agents from St. Paul were responding to a “domestic-related shooting” that took place in the city of Burnsville, which has a population of nearly 64,000 residents and is about 16 miles south of Minneapolis.

Additional details about what led up to the shooting were not available.

A state representative, Jim Nash, said on social media, “My heart is heavy for the families of these officers, the community of Burnsville, and for our country because this headline is not unique.”

The Burnsville Police Department referred inquiries to a city spokeswoman who did not immediately respond to calls on Sunday.
